New York Rangers' fans can be a peculiar bunch. They have a unique goal song. They often call their team the 'Broadway Blueshirts.' And, they sometimes get a horrifyingly bad tattoo of former team captain Mark Messier looking like he's been mashed-up with Jim Carrey's character in 'The Mask.'

The NHL has regal traditions - such as tapping one's stick on the ice to applaud a superior effort, shaking hands at center ice after the end of a playoff series and asking an opponent if he 'wants to go' before trying to beat his face into jelly.

The NHL and Mark Messier certainly deserve a more proper tribute than a ghoulish caricature that should get the offending tattoo artist thrown onto the Madison Square Garden ice like an octopus.
